Product Description
For two-semester or three-quarter courses in General Chemistry. McMurry/Fay makes the right connections in general chemistry topically, visually, and quantitatively. Chemistry is mastered when students make the right connections in three key areas; topics that are related, conceptual reasoning with quantitative work, and the different modes of communicating information. McMurry/Fay breaks through the boundaries traditionally imposed by textbooks that have historically made it difficult for students to make these connections on their own. Topic Connections, Conceptual and Quantitative parallel presentation, and Text-Graphic Integration Objects make these critical connections clear and visible, so students see the chemistry the first time. When you see the connections, you see the chemistry. Students don’t use textbooks exactly the same way they used them in the past. The new layout of MF5 was designed to map to the way students seek and process information, and is based on conversations with students about the way they study.

Conceptually Brilliant and Analytically Challenging May 9, 2008 D. Cassell (PA) 10 out of 11 found this review helpful
There are few textbooks that I'd give 5 stars to, this textbook is one of them. What makes this textbook so brilliant is that it challenges you to look at the concepts, & not to just repeat the equations from the book without knowing what you're doing. At the end of each chapter there are "key concept," "section," "chapter," & finally "multi-concept problems." The multi-concept problems are usually more advanced for students who want to go above & beyond what is usually required. This textbook does start at the very beginning of what you'd learn in an inorganic college level chemistry class, e.g. significant figures, conversions, etc. & takes you all the way to an introduction to organic chemistry. To compliment the text, there is also an online review site in which you can watch videos, take practice exams, & prepare for the MCAT exams. Separately you can buy a solutions manual for the problems in the book, which was clear, concise, & accurate. Overall, if you thoroughly read this book & do the problems, you will come out of the course knowing chemistry well. This is one textbook that I really fell in love with & really made me enjoy chemistry more than when I started.
Perfect! March 4, 2010 E. Akashi (ORANGE, CALIFORNIA, US) 0 out of 2 found this review helpful
This book was exactly what I needed! It's in great condition and I got it quite soon after I had ordered it (a week or so I believe).

General Chemistry September 23, 2008 Justin the Traveler 7 out of 8 found this review helpful
This book was required for my general chemistry class. We are almost halfway through it and I find it really explanitory. There are some places where things could be explained better or in multiple ways, but overall the book is easy to understand.
not too bad... September 4, 2010 creighton student i bought this used book in a "very good" condition...it really is pretty clean in and outside...but the delivery was cutting it close to when i needed it...made me panic a little...
