5 out of 5 stars Excellent case studies book   January 26, 2010

This case studies book is an excellent supplement to basic pathophysiology textbooks for learning the subject of pathophysiology. The book is not intended to stand alone unless the student has some background in pathophysiology, but used while taking a pathophysiology course, it has significant merit. It helped me to understand, from a basic science perspective, why sick patients develop the symptoms that they do when they have particular diseases. I found the case studies on heart failure, breast cancer, lung cancer and diabetes especially helpful as I have family members with this disease. The book really helped me to connect the dots between basic science and the clinical manifestations of disease. I found the CD very helpful in helping me to understand the pathophysiology of disease. I highly recommend this case studies book for anyone who is currently enrolled in a pathophysiology or pathology course or just wants to review pathophysiology.

5 out of 5 stars Just what I needed...   August 2, 2010

I just started teaching a Pathophysiology course & was looking for case studies for the students. These case studies are current, concise, & reasonable for the students; each one provides enough information to get them started without 'leading' the student. I watch the students as their critical thinking skills start to spark...You know, the 'Ahhh, now I get it!" expression that comes over their faces. Well worth the investment. Thanks~~~

This book was supposed to be written for people who haven't had many medical classes. I think it is still way too advanced. I would not recommend it
